day #365 - the end of an era

I thought I was on top of it; I had finished early and was looking for a movie to watch already 3 hours ago. And I don't know how time went by. A phonecall, some networking studying, some online shopping and here we are, already past the time for an early movie. Regardless, today is a special day. The blog is over! I finished 365 days of daily painting and recording it, whatever that means. A big part of the process I will have to keep doing mainly for myself. Perhaps taking daily photos of my work and saving it on some folder. This has provem useful many times when I trying to date a piece I've been working on. Also making a small diary of today's achievements. It's still useful. But this will be done for my eyes only. I also don't know if I will be continuing my obsessively daily painting. How would life be if I had days off? Now for example that I'm moving out and I have to daily chores that until now were completely taken care of, perhaps I'll allow my

day #155 - Contractions

Another day, stuck in a semi-conscious pattern of trying to ride the last wave. Another brush-pen explorative sketch, another day doodling stuff while listening to people chatting on discord hoping that inspiration strikes, that the hand builds enough momentum for the forms to just flow... It's not one of these happy days, but if I pay attention to my work, one sketch after another, regardless of the negativity that my mind screams, they still carry positive traits. That's why I'm here; to point out the good ones and dispel the bad ones.

The ink sketch was an interesting experiment. I used ink that I hadn't used for a long time (Deleter Manga ink) that was already half-dry and started painting random shapes. Due to the dryness, the brush was leaving a lot of texture and I enjoyed it; interesting forms were emerging from it. I don't know if it's harming the brush (I hope not) but it's definitely a nice style to paint in. Then I started mixing it with water which made black less intense (hence part of the doodle is black and the rest shades of gray). I like the scene, mostly the fact that you don't know what's going on.

Later on I moved on the iPad hoping that I'd do 10-20minutes while I was preparing a movie only to find myself 2h later still drawing. Anyway; at least I'm being "productive" (though I need to take some break again, I can feel the frustration of not being able to watch some film building up). I started with tiny gestures (again trying to trace what had worked for me lately) and then moved to landscapes. These are the highlights of the sheet. I like the shaded tree in foreground, the spaceship at the back. The second scene is also interesting, with a somewhat interesting hovercar.

Overall (if I want to focus on the positive) there were two nice and inspiring landspaces, I explored a new inking technique, and I actively having the opportunity to practice letting go of recipes for repeating success since they don't work and the expectation so much hurts me.
