day #365 - the end of an era

I thought I was on top of it; I had finished early and was looking for a movie to watch already 3 hours ago. And I don't know how time went by. A phonecall, some networking studying, some online shopping and here we are, already past the time for an early movie. Regardless, today is a special day. The blog is over! I finished 365 days of daily painting and recording it, whatever that means. A big part of the process I will have to keep doing mainly for myself. Perhaps taking daily photos of my work and saving it on some folder. This has provem useful many times when I trying to date a piece I've been working on. Also making a small diary of today's achievements. It's still useful. But this will be done for my eyes only. I also don't know if I will be continuing my obsessively daily painting. How would life be if I had days off? Now for example that I'm moving out and I have to daily chores that until now were completely taken care of, perhaps I'll allow my

day #64 - The General

So this is it, at the same time I kept doing practice but also managed to break free from the completely unimaginative work. I still haven't managed to go out, and perhaps this is not the creative thing I've been looking for, but it's more creative than postures on the iPad.

So let's see what positive stuff can I discover. For a start, my gestural drawing are likeable. At least I like them. A few of them in particular (the two first) are very much alive; and I like how simple they are yet, full of  gesture. These were all 30sec ones; some were quicker; like 10secs. The rest of the postures are 3minute ones. I satisfied overall they are good. I am really starting to remember some muscles in the legs now. I like a lot the last one that I did (top right box) where I took the posture of a photo and then redrew it from a different angle. I mean why not? I'm studying volume, posture, and perspective so why not?

And then, there is the final artwork for today: The general, sitting on the classroom chair, outside on the battlefield. What do I like about it? First and foremost that I did something other than practice; secondly that I put some story into it. Then I somewhat like the silliness of the idea and the background colors. I like the uniform colors too, and how the folds are created around the knees. I like the random details in the background.
