day #365 - the end of an era

I thought I was on top of it; I had finished early and was looking for a movie to watch already 3 hours ago. And I don't know how time went by. A phonecall, some networking studying, some online shopping and here we are, already past the time for an early movie. Regardless, today is a special day. The blog is over! I finished 365 days of daily painting and recording it, whatever that means. A big part of the process I will have to keep doing mainly for myself. Perhaps taking daily photos of my work and saving it on some folder. This has provem useful many times when I trying to date a piece I've been working on. Also making a small diary of today's achievements. It's still useful. But this will be done for my eyes only. I also don't know if I will be continuing my obsessively daily painting. How would life be if I had days off? Now for example that I'm moving out and I have to daily chores that until now were completely taken care of, perhaps I'll allow my

day #250 - Age of Resistance Thumbnailing

For years I've been keeping screenshots of all the beautiful scenes from movies and TV series that I come across; I keep telling myself that one day I'll study them but other than a couple of times, I haven't done so. That is not to say that I'm not studying them at all; merely screen-grabbing them is a micro-study in itself, but I've been aiming for much more.
One of the shows that I find have amazing cinematography is the Dark Crystal - The Age of Resistance so today I finally decided to pick an episode and do some studies of it; composition, light-dark contrast, staging, environment design, vehicles... Anything! I'm not accustomed to copying or using references, but it's been awfully enjoyable! I filled a whole sheet and while a part of me is excited (wow, look how beautiful they look) another wants to remind myself that this isn't my own work, I'm merely copying. Creating this intricacy out of thin air would had been a whole different beast. Something that has been extremely pleasant, is the speed with which I'm drawing these things,it feels as if I'm flying.
In any case, it's been thorougly enjoyable, looks awesome, and I hope it's done me some good too!
